J. Todd Smith was born and raised in Southwest Ohio, where he learned and has lived the values which have guided his life: hard work, love of God, honor of country and service to others.

Todd has had a variety of work experiences. He early on worked in his dad’s garage helping fix automobiles and small engines. His first job outside the family was a summer job with the United States Postal Service. He has worked over 20 years in public utilities construction securing his 30-hour OSHA card and CDL license and enjoined all facets of the job from directing traffic to live-tapping water mains. Todd has never been afraid of hard work.

His commitment to service has been seen throughout his life. He has been a minister for over 40 years serving the same congregation for 29 years in southwest Montgomery County. His ministry has taken him to a dozen nations and a majority of our states.

Todd also serves his nation in the Ohio Army National Guard currently as the 2nd Battalion Chaplain of Ohio’s 174th Air Defense Artillery. His service is also seen on the local level as the chaplain for the Farmersville/Jackson Township Fire Department, a board member of the Jefferson Regional Water Authority and as a substitute teacher and member of the Valley View High School Security Committee.

From 2017 to 2020, J. Todd Smith had the honor of serving in the Ohio House of Representatives, where he built a reputation for principled leadership and accessibility to the people he represented. During his tenure, he supported legislation that advanced family values, protected religious liberty, and encouraged economic opportunity for small businesses.

Dedicated to lifelong learning, Todd has continually pursued education to prepare himself to serve others well. He acquired his MDiv from Hope University and recently completed a Doctor of Ministry in Military Chaplaincy from Liberty University.

Todd and his wife Jennifer have been married for 31 years and have raised all four of their children in Southwest Ohio. He remains deeply committed to faith, family, and community, and to ensuring that the values that shaped his life continue to guide Ohio’s future.
